FABLe App Staff Training

“We are changing the world with technology” – Bill Gates.

This quote definitely holds true with the continuous advancements in technology. The Gateway School, Mumbai, has developed an application called, Fluency Assessment and Benchmarking for Literacy in Education (FABLe).

It is the first mobile application being developed for the assessment of foundational literacy skills in India. FABLe passages are currently available in English and Marathi for Grades 1 to 5, with plans to expand to other Indian languages. FABLe is designed to administer curriculum-based measures for reading (R-CBMs) that have been validated in the Indian context. The Gateway School of Mumbai, collaborated with Dr. Anjali Morris Education and Health Foundation (AMF) to develop the application in Marathi.
AMF had organized an in-house staff training for using the app for Marathi medium students and interpreting the scores obtained on the test.
Ms. Nikita from The Gateway School Mumbai, conducted this training and our staff was made familiar with the application, noting the responses and interpreting the scores.

Morris Foundation will be using the FABLe application to assess the students in Marathi medium schools. In the long run, this application will definitely help teachers, special educators to assess students in vernacular mediums who are at risk for Specific Learning Disabilities (SLDs).
